Engineers Australia has developed the Guide to Best Practice for Safer Construction after a significant review of practical Australian and international best practice initiatives to identify the key processes that create a safer construction industry.
During the development of the guide, recommendations were made by the Engineers Australia Taskforce on Construction Safety which was chaired by Leighton Holdings' chief operating officer, Bill Wild. The project leader was Tim Fleming, operations safety manager for the NSW/ACT Region in John Holland Group.
The project partners were John Holland Group, Bovis Lend Lease, West Australian Department of Housing and Works, Curtin University of Technology, Queensland University of Technology and RMIT University.
The CRC for Construction Innovation provided the industry research leadership in coordinating and funding.
The guide will educate industry on how worksites can be made safer, resulting in fewer deaths and a reduction in injuries, leading to higher productivity and a better quality built environment.
