Consistent with the Uniform Evidence Act which has been in operation in some Australian jurisdictions for over a decade, Victoria is in the process of bringing its law of evidence in line with New South Wales and the Commonwealth by adopting model uniform evidence laws upon which the Evidence Act 1995 (NSW) and Evidence Act 1995 (Cth) are based. The Evidence Act 2008 (Vic), is due to commence in Victoria on 1 January 2010 and adopts most of the model uniform evidence laws.
